Bear Trap damage

Why is my Bear Trap damage so low?

If your Bear score suddenly looks bad — or another player with less power is outdamaging you — do not start changing everything at once. First figure out which problem you actually have: low damage per hit or a low total event score. They are not the same problem.

Problem A

My damage per hit is low

Troubleshoot the march and the rally: formation, troop tier, stats, heroes, caller, skills, bonuses and buffs.

Problem B

My total Bear score is low

Your hits may be fine. Troubleshoot the session: number of completed hits, march turnaround, rally availability, travel time and idle marches.

Start here

If your damage per hit is low, check these in order

Do not rebuild your entire account because of one ugly rally. Work through the variables methodically so you can tell what is actually limiting the hit.

01

Check the formation

Start with the troops you actually sent. Bear Trap usually favors a Marksman-heavy formation, but a good first march does not help if later marches run out of the troops they need. Check the ratio, exact troop counts, troop tiers, deployment capacity, and whether the formation can be supported across the session.

02

Check the lead joiner hero

When you join a rally, the hero in the first slot matters. Look at the top-right Expedition skill instead of hero power alone. A powerful hero with the wrong skill can be a worse Bear joiner than a lower-power hero whose skill actually contributes to the rally.

03

Check whose rally you joined

Your march does not hit Bear in isolation. The rally caller brings their own heroes, Expedition skills, troop stats, bonuses, capacity, and formation into the rally. If you test one march with a strong caller and the next with a weaker caller, the damage difference cannot automatically be blamed on your march.

04

Check troop tier and combat stats — not just power

Two accounts with similar troop counts or troop power can still produce very different Bear damage. Troop tier and offensive combat stats such as Attack and Lethality matter to the result. Total power is useful for describing account size; it is not a Bear damage diagnosis.

05

Check the rest of the account systems

Bear damage is built from more than one screen. Hero Expedition skills and widgets, troop research and bonuses, Chief Gear and Charms, applicable pet bonuses, and active combat buffs can all contribute to the conditions around a hit. Compare the pieces that affect combat rather than assuming the account with the larger number must hit harder.

06

Make sure you are testing the same thing

If you change the caller, formation, lead hero, troop count, buffs, and gear between two rallies, you did not test one change — you tested six. Keep as much as possible consistent, change one meaningful variable, and compare several representative hits before deciding something worked.

Different problem

Your hits are good. Why is your total score still low?

A Bear score is not just damage per hit. It is also how much useful damage you can put on the Bear before the event ends. A player can improve an individual rally and still finish with a worse total if they complete fewer hits.

Are marches sitting idle?

A march waiting in your city is producing zero Bear damage. Fast rally selection and keeping available marches cycling matter to total output.

How far are your marches traveling?

Longer travel cycles can reduce how quickly a march becomes available for the next rally. Position and rally timing can affect how many hits you complete.

Are enough rallies available?

Your alliance environment matters. If there are not enough useful rallies to keep your marches moving, individual hit optimization alone cannot fix the entire event score.

Did you sacrifice later marches?

Loading the best troops and heroes into one beautiful squad can leave the rest of the session weak. Optimize the set of marches, not just the screenshot-worthy one.

The useful comparison:

Damage per hit tells you how hard the rally is landing. Total event damage tells you how well the entire Bear session is performing. Improve the one that is actually holding you back.

Test without guessing

Change one thing, then test again

Bear results can vary from rally to rally. If you are trying to learn whether a change helped, keep the comparison as controlled as the game allows. Use the same caller when possible, keep the troop count and formation consistent, avoid changing multiple account variables at once, and record more than one hit.

Better test

Same caller + same formation + same troop count + one hero change + several rallies.

Bad test

Different caller + different troops + new buff + hero swap + one rally = “the hero added 8 million damage.” Maybe. Maybe not.

Common Bear damage questions

Quick answers before you rebuild everything

Why is my Bear Trap damage lower than someone with less power?

Because total power is not the Bear damage formula. Formation, troop tier, offensive stats, heroes and Expedition skills, account bonuses, buffs, and the rally caller can all differ even when the lower-damage account has more total power.

Why did my Bear damage change when I used the same march?

The march may be the same while the rally is not. A different caller, different rally composition, different active buffs, or other changing combat conditions can move the result. Compare repeated hits under similar conditions before treating one result as a new baseline.

Should I judge my Bear setup by my biggest hit?

No. Your biggest hit is useful to know, but repeatable damage is more useful for optimization. Look at several representative rallies instead of building a strategy around one unusually strong result.

Can my damage per hit improve while my total Bear score gets worse?

Yes. Total event score also depends on how many useful rallies you land during the event. Stronger individual hits cannot fully compensate for marches sitting idle, long travel cycles, missed rallies, or fewer completed hits.
