Event Playbook · Frostfire Mine

Frostfire is worth playing. It is not always worth fighting.

The clean Frostfire plan is simple: build skill XP, turn that XP into better scoring, and keep earning Orichalcum. The messy part is doing it while the rest of the lobby is chasing the same patrols, fresh veins, and Outbursts. Here is the ideal plan—and what to do when the map refuses to cooperate.

I hate this event. Just tell me what to do.

The 30-minute game plan

Step 1

Spawn

Find a workable pocket before you commit to a traffic jam.

Step 2

Patrols

Clear reachable patrols and build the skill tree.

Step 3

Fresh veins

Favor mines with patrols still attached for the better scoring loop.

Step 4

OUTBURST

Recall your marches and go ham on the high-value veins.

Step 5

Reset

Reassess the map, find fresh targets if practical, and keep earning.

The standard skill route is Right → Right → Left → Left → Right. That is the ideal. A crowded lobby may not give you enough patrols to finish it before the event is nearly over—or at all.

The opening

Find room before you find a fight.

Look for a workable little area: patrols you can realistically reach, nearby fresh veins, room to move, and fewer players competing for every target. If your landing area is already packed, moving early can be better than losing the first several minutes to the same patrol race.

Why scarcity changes the plan

Patrols are finite, and so are fresh veins with patrols still waiting inside them. Everyone is chewing through the same supply. We have had post-update matches with 120+ participants and runs where there simply were not enough reachable patrols to finish the tree. RRLLR is still the recommended route. The problem is getting enough opportunities to actually complete it.

Frostfire skill tree

See the choices. Then RRLLR actually makes sense.

Each level makes you choose one side. Cyan marks the standard gathering-focused pick; the other skill is shown so you know what you are giving up—and why the route matters beyond memorizing five letters.

Skill level 1

Unlock: 200 XP

Recommended: RIGHT
LEFT

Passive Orichalcum

+1,080/min

Steady income without doing anything.

RIGHT✓ PICK

Patrol Reward

+1,500 / patrol

Adds Orichalcum every time you defeat a Mine Patrol.

Why this pick: You are already hunting patrols for skill XP, so this pays you for the opening you should be doing anyway.
Skill level 2

Unlock: 500 XP

Recommended: RIGHT
LEFT

Deployment Capacity

+12,000 troops

More troops in a single march.

RIGHT✓ PICK

March Speed

+25%

Faster battlefield marches.

Why this pick: Patrols are contested. Getting to the next one faster matters more than extra march capacity for the standard scoring route.
Skill level 3

Unlock: 900 XP

Recommended: LEFT
LEFT✓ PICK

Successful Occupation

+5,000

When you successfully occupy a common vein; triggers once per minute.

RIGHT

Failed Occupation

+5,000

When you fail to occupy a common vein; triggers once per minute.

Why this pick: This adds points when you successfully take a vein, which fits the normal loop of clearing patrols and moving into productive mines.
Skill level 4

Unlock: 1,500 XP

Recommended: LEFT
LEFT✓ PICK

Gathering Efficiency

+15%

More efficient Orichalcum gathering while occupying a vein.

RIGHT

Hero Recovery

-30% time

Shorter recovery after a hero is defeated.

Why this pick: If the goal is reliable scoring instead of repeated PvP, improving the veins you can hold is usually the better payoff.
Skill level 5

Unlock: 2,300 XP

Recommended: RIGHT
LEFT

Mine Armory: Damage

+66% damage

Active for 60 seconds; 5-minute cooldown.

RIGHT✓ PICK

Mine Armory: Gathering

+50% speed

Active for 60 seconds; 5-minute cooldown.

Why this pick: This is the payoff at the end of the standard route: a temporary gathering boost that is perfect to line up with a Vein Outburst when you manage to unlock it in time.

Skill values shown are the currently documented Frostfire values. Event tuning can change; we will update this tree when the in-game values change.

Vein Outbursts · the pièce de résistance

When the Outburst hits, everybody out. We ride at dawn.

Normal mining takes a back seat when Outburst veins appear. Recall your marches, get them into the Outburst veins, and make the limited high-value window count. When it ends, reassess the map instead of blindly sending everyone back to the same old mines.

Skill 5 unlocked?

Perfect. The final RIGHT skill gives you the temporary gathering-speed boost. Save it when practical and line it up with an Outburst so the best gathering skill is working during the best gathering window.

Still waiting on Skill 5?

Hit the Outburst anyway. Patrol scarcity can leave the tree unfinished until late in the match—or keep you from finishing it at all. Do not skip the Outburst just because the ideal boost is not available.

After the Outburst: look again for fresh veins with patrols when they are realistically available. If the lobby has already stripped them clean, get back into something productive and keep scoring.

Fresh is better. Earning is mandatory.

Fresh veins are the goal—not an excuse to earn zero points.

During normal mining, fresh veins with patrols still inside give you more scoring opportunities than repeatedly returning to mines whose patrols have already been cleared. So yes: keep looking for fresh targets. But fresh veins become scarce too, especially in a crowded match.

Frost Rule

A less-than-perfect vein that is earning points beats the perfect vein you have not found yet.

Translation: stop sitting around doing fuck-all.

Do not teleport three times, lose four patrol races, and spend minutes earning nothing because you are searching for a pristine mine. Take the productive option in front of you, then move when a genuinely better opportunity appears.

When the clean plan falls apart

Protect your scoring, not your ego.

Patrols are plentiful

Keep moving. Clear reachable patrols, build skill XP, and favor fresh veins with patrols still attached while the map is giving you that option.

Patrols or fresh veins are scarce

Do not spend half the event roaming around waiting for the perfect target. Take a productive vein, keep earning, and move when a better fresh patrol-and-vein opportunity actually appears.

A stronger player wants your vein

You do not have to defend your pride. If repeated fights cost more time and points than the location is worth, relocate and keep scoring.

A whale picked you as a hobby

Stop treating one perfect area as mandatory. Keep moving, minimize wasted recovery time, collect what you can, and protect your own reward progress.

Reward-focused Frostfire

You do not have to play like you are chasing Top 10.

If the strongest players control the premium areas, let them spend their match fighting over them. Your goal can simply be maximizing the points your account can reasonably earn without spending 30 minutes getting pissed off. Keep earning, hit the Outbursts hard, take fresh patrol-and-vein opportunities when the map gives them to you, and work toward the rewards that matter to your account.

Crowded matches

The player cap changed. The traffic jam survived.

Whiteout Survival reduced the maximum Chiefs per Frostfire match in April 2026 but did not publish the new cap. Crowded battlefields are still very real, so this playbook does not assume a private patrol route or endless supply of fresh veins is waiting for you.

Kathy changes the math

Not everyone earns skill XP at the same speed anymore.

Kathy can add Frostfire patrol XP as her Icefire Hunter skill develops, alongside other Frostfire-specific bonuses. That can materially change how quickly a player reaches later skills, so we will give her a dedicated breakdown rather than pretending every account has the same run.
